Ukraine.
In the winter of 2018 I travelled to Ukraine. This was four years after the Russian invasion of the east, but four years before their offensive against Kyiv, Kharkiv, and the rest of the nation. We drew intrigue from the locals as we drove from city to city, not used to tourists popping into their backstreet shisha bars, but it was all well humoured. It saddens me to think of what the people in these photos have experienced since I took them. I truly hope they’re well. Much of these are taken from a car window or snapped on a phone, but the documentary feel of them feels very poignant, now knowing what the people of Ukraine have been through since.
